ABOUT

WILLIAM A. BEACHY

For more than 25 years, I've helped organizations solve complex problems through thoughtful design. Whether I'm developing a brand identity, organizing a complicated website, designing a user interface, or creating a visual system, my goal is always the same: make things clearer, easier to understand, and more enjoyable to use.

My work spans UI/UX design, information architecture, branding, and graphic design. I partner with businesses to uncover what makes them unique, organize information into intuitive experiences, and create visual systems that communicate with clarity and purpose. Every project begins with listening, asking questions, and gaining a deep understanding of both the business and the people it serves.

Before launching my independent practice, I spent more than 25 years leading Go Media, a nationally recognized creative agency that partnered with startups, nonprofits, manufacturers, healthcare organizations, and Fortune 500 companies. During that time, I led hundreds of branding, website, and digital design projects, building a reputation for strategic thinking, exceptional craftsmanship, and dependable execution.

At my core, I'm a designer, storyteller and problem solver. I enjoy untangling complexity, organizing information, and transforming ideas into experiences that feel intuitive, purposeful, and memorable. I believe great design isn't just about making something look beautiful—it's about helping people understand, navigate, and connect.

If you're looking for an experienced design partner who can help strengthen your brand, improve your user experience, simplify complex information, or bring clarity to your next project, I'd love to talk.

  • I begin every design project with research. I seek to understand a client’s history, audience, competitors, and industry, along with who they aspire to be—both visually and in their messaging. Most importantly, I establish a clear understanding of the project’s purpose and functional goals, ensuring the design solves the right problem from the start.

Using insights from this discovery phase, I develop multiple style boards composed of found art, each supported by creative rationale. These boards allow for fast, effective communication of potential visual directions. In parallel, I apply information architecture principles to create visual sitemaps and wireframes that define structure, hierarchy, and user flow. This phase is highly iterative, with multiple concepts explored and discussed, including the strengths and trade-offs of each approach. When available, user testing and interactive prototypes provide valuable feedback and help validate user experience decisions early.

Once wireframes are approved, the project moves into user interface design, beginning again with multiple visual concepts. Through successive rounds of design refinement, testing, and feedback, the work evolves until it meets both user needs and business objectives. Throughout the process, close collaboration with the development team is essential to ensure the final product maintains design integrity and delivers the intended experience without loss in translation.

  • A design project is successful when clear goals are defined at the beginning and the final solution effectively addresses the core problem. It meets user needs, aligns with business objectives, and delivers measurable value, while remaining usable, feasible, and sustainable over time. Ultimately, success means the outcome fulfills the original goals and continues to perform well after launch.

  • My management style is rooted in building the right team and creating an environment where people can do their best work. As they said in the book Good to Great: "Get the right people on the bus." Over more than two decades of leadership experience, I’ve learned that when you hire thoughtfully—considering both skill and behavior—management becomes far more about guidance and support than control. I place a strong emphasis on design capability, collaboration, accountability, and alignment with team values.

Once the right people are in place, I lead with a trust-based, outcomes-focused approach. I work to understand what motivates each team member, how they prefer to work, and where they can have the greatest impact. I set clear goals, define expectations, and then empower designers with autonomy in how they reach those outcomes. I believe this balance of clarity and freedom leads to stronger ownership, better design thinking, and higher-quality results.

I also see my role as a coach and advocate. I provide regular feedback, remove obstacles, and ensure the team has the resources and support they need. I stay closely connected to the work without micromanaging, and I adjust my level of involvement based on experience, context, and project complexity. Ultimately, my goal is to build high-performing teams that feel trusted, challenged, and supported.
